Q and A on Wallace Brothers & Lunnie Ellis Smith, Sr.
Chris, could you please share with us how your father’s unwavering encouragement and delayed revelation of his own musical dreams impacted your perspective and motivation throughout your career?
“At a very young age, I went to my father and told him I wanted to pursue music. With no hesitation, he agreed. While I began my journey into the music industry he never pressured me, but always encouraged me whenever I was close to giving up. Over the course of me pursuing my passion he never discussed with me that he once had the same dream. My father waited many years (after I was in the music business and well established) before sharing his love of music, and how he almost made a career out of it. He was just a teen, and he had an opportunity to work with a group called the Wallace Brothers. The song he wrote on was called “Airborne Shuffle.” His dream was interrupted when he was drafted into the army during the Vietnam era. He didn’t have the opportunity that I was blessed with but I’m forever grateful for the encouragement and support he always gave me. Without him I would have given up long ago.”
